Company Profile

Alzheimer’s and Related Disorder Association of Ghana is a non-governmental, non-religious and non-profit making organization, established in 2012, aimed at raising awareness of all forms of dementia throughout Ghana especially among women, to eliminate the stigma attached to the disease through available media, and also to create a society which is dementia friendly, dementia literate where a person with dementia can live with dignity and honour, which he/she deserves.

The association is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity – CG015022012.

Vision

Our vision is to create a society which is dementia friendly, dementia literate where a person with dementia can live with dignity and honour, which he/she deserves.

Mission

  1. To provide affordable, essential and easily accessible quality care and support to all those who have been affected by dementia.
  2.  Improve care through training programmes for primary caregivers, social workers and families suffering from dementia to reflect dignified livelihood.
  3. To progressively increase social consciousness and awareness by 10 per cent yearly. So that by the end of the sustainable development Goals in 2030, Ghana will have reached 100 percent awareness of the Alzheimer’s mental disorder,
  4. Directly empower women through specific financial support who (intentionally or unintentionally) care for people with dementia aimed at helping these caregivers to decrease the burden of care on women/caregivers.

Main Objectives

  1. Raising public awareness throughout Ghana, hoping to eliminate the fear caused by Alzheimer’s mental disorder, and the stigma attached to the disease through all available media.
  2. To support women through training and financial assistance to provide quality care for affected families.
  3. To secure from Government and non-Governmental sources, better facilities for the care of those affected by dementia.
  4. To undertake and support research into the causes, prevalence and other aspects of dementia.
  5. To arrange and conduct training programmes for caregivers and to organize seminars, medical camps and relief work.
  6. To provide guidance in legal matters to people with dementia and families and to intervene on their behalf wherever or whenever necessary or feasible.

Organizational Structure

Alzheimer’s and Related Disorder Association of Ghana works through a three-tier structure.

The first is the Board of Directors who are the highest policy-making body and also responsible for the general control of the organization.

A secretariat, headed by an executive Director, forms the second level of the structure. It is responsible for the implementation of the policies of the Board and daily administration of the organization.

The third structure is the Zones (Centers) situate in the ten (10) regions of the country.
